The Metropolitan Railway was reluctant to stop in Ickenham at all, doubting there was enough revenue, so after lobbying by the parish council a modest halt opened on 25 September 1905 on the Harrow to Uxbridge line. Its arrival brought Londoners out for a day in the countryside, and villagers living nearby sold flowers from their gardens and served teas. Platform shelters followed in December 1905 and a booking hut in 1910; the platforms, originally too short for whole trains, were lengthened in 1922.

District trains began calling from 1 March 1910 via the new link at Rayners Lane and were replaced by Piccadilly line services on 23 October 1933. The halt’s 1905 structures survived until 1970–1971, when the station was rebuilt in its present form. It remains a quiet suburban stop shared by the Metropolitan line and Piccadilly line on their way to Uxbridge.

Frequently asked questions

The Metropolitan Railway thought a station here would not pay, so when Ickenham Parish Council lobbied for one the compromise was a small halt, opened on 25 September 1905. Shelters were added in December 1905, a booking hut in 1910, and the short platforms were extended in 1922.

The station was rebuilt into its present form between 1970 and 1971. The work replaced the halt structures that had served Ickenham since 1905, including the platform shelters added that December and the booking hut of 1910, which had grown up piecemeal around the original modest halt.
