Cookie policy
The three groups of cookie this site can set, and how to refuse two of them.
A cookie is a short string a site asks your browser to keep and hand back on the next request. This page lists every cookie londontube.org can cause to be written, grouped by what it is for, because the three groups have completely different rules: the first is unavoidable, the second and third require your permission and wait for it.
Strictly necessary
These three are written whether or not you consent, because without them the site cannot defend itself, cannot tell whether your browser supports cookies, and cannot remember that you already answered the banner. None of them carries an advertising identifier.
| Cookie | Set by | Why it exists | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|
cf_clearance, __cf_bm | Cloudflare | Separates readers from automated traffic so the pages stay reachable during an attack | Up to 1 year / 30 minutes |
wordpress_test_cookie | WordPress | A single write-and-read test that tells the software whether your browser accepts cookies at all | Ends with the browser session |
cmplz_* | This site (Complianz consent banner) | Remembers the answer you gave the consent banner, purpose by purpose, which is the only way to avoid asking again on every page | Up to 12 months |
Measurement
One analytics product, used to find out which pages are read and which are ignored. Its cookies are not written until you accept it: before that, and if you refuse, Google Analytics receives only a cookieless signal that a page was viewed (Google Consent Mode), with no identifier tying it to you. The figures it produces are aggregate: there is no report in which an individual reader appears.
| Cookie | Set by | Why it exists | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga, _ga_* | Google Analytics | Distinguishes one visit from the next so a page view is not counted twice; the IP address is truncated before it is stored | Up to 2 years |
Advertising
The ad slots are what pay for the hosting and the time. Refuse these cookies and the slots still appear, filled with advertising chosen from the page you are reading rather than from anything about you.
| Cookie | Set by | Why it exists | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|
__gads, __gpi, __eoi | Google AdSense | Limits how often the same advertisement reaches you, detects click fraud and, where consent allows, selects the ad | Up to 13 months |
IDE, DSID | Google, via doubleclick.net | Measures what happens after an advertisement is clicked, and personalises the next one | Up to 13 months |
Changing your mind
On a first visit the banner offers three buttons of the same size and weight, Accept all, Reject all and Settings, and Settings opens with every optional purpose unticked. The “Privacy and cookie settings” link in the footer reopens the banner on any page of the site. Withdrawing consent takes effect immediately, deletes the _ga cookies already stored, stops the measurement and advertising cookies from being written again, and has no effect on what you can read here.
Blocking cookies in the browser
Every browser can block or delete cookies for a single site, and that works whatever this page says. Be aware of one consequence: if the Cloudflare cookies are blocked, the contact form may be refused as suspicious traffic. Reading the guide is unaffected. In the United Kingdom these rules come from the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003, which is why consent is asked for before anything but the first group is written.
