About Ruislip station
Ruislip is the oldest station on the Metropolitan line’s Uxbridge branch. When the Harrow and Uxbridge Railway began services on 4 July 1904, it was the only intermediate stop between Harrow-on-the-Hill and Uxbridge. Steam trains worked the line at first, with electric trains taking over on 1 January 1905 once electrification was finished. The trackbed here was built wide enough for a second pair of tracks, either as passing loops or extra platform roads, but neither was ever laid.
District line trains reached Ruislip after an extension from South Harrow joined the Metropolitan at Rayners Lane on 1 March 1910, and on 23 October 1933 the Piccadilly line took their place. Trains can be turned back here, though awkwardly: after detraining at the westbound platform, a train runs about half a mile to a reversing siding leading to Ruislip Depot, then returns and crosses into the eastbound platform, holding up services in both directions. For that reason the move is usually made only by some peak-hour Piccadilly trains. A crossover east of the station and a goods yard north of the line have both gone.

Ruislip. When the Metropolitan Railway’s Harrow and Uxbridge line opened on 4 July 1904, Ruislip was the only intermediate stop between Harrow-on-the-Hill and Uxbridge. Every other station on the branch, including Rayners Lane and Ruislip Manor, came later.
Yes, but it is disruptive. A train empties at the westbound platform, runs about half a mile to a reversing siding leading to Ruislip Depot, then returns and crosses to the eastbound platform. Services both ways are held up meanwhile, so it is usually done only by some peak-hour Piccadilly line trains.
