About Northfields station
Northfield Halt, opened on 16 April 1908, offered little more than rudimentary shelters on the District Railway’s route to Hounslow, which had run through the area since 1 May 1883. It became Northfields & Little Ealing in 1911, and a first rebuilding in the 1910s gave it a proper booking hall on the bridge over the tracks and better platform canopies.
The present station, on the east side of Northfields Avenue, came out of the early-1930s preparations for Piccadilly line trains on the Hounslow branch and for the new Northfields depot, and it took its current name in 1932. Charles Holden designed it in a modern European style of brick, reinforced concrete and glass: a tall block-like ticket hall, its brick walls punctuated by clerestory windows and capped with a flat concrete slab, rises above a low range of offices and shops, much as at his Sudbury Town and Oakwood. Below lie two island platforms serving four tracks, with the depot immediately to the west; to avoid conflicts, the westbound running line drops under the depot exit track in a cutting. District line trains left the branch in October 1964, and the building was listed Grade II on 17 May 1994.

Frequently asked questions
It opened in 1908 as Northfield Halt and was renamed Northfields & Little Ealing in 1911. That longer name lasted until 1932, when the rebuilt station prepared for Piccadilly line services took the shorter name Northfields it carries today.
The station connects directly to Northfields depot, immediately to the west and south of the tracks. Trains can terminate here and run on into the depot, and they normally enter and leave service at Northfields. Its two island platforms serve four tracks, two in each direction.
