The Metropolitan Railway opened Canons Park on 10 December 1932 on its new branch from Wembley Park to Stanmore. For its first year it was called Canons Park (Edgware); the suffix went in 1933. The branch then changed hands twice: on 20 November 1939 it was transferred to the Bakerloo line, and on 1 May 1979 it became part of the Jubilee line, which serves the station today.

On today’s line it is the last stop before the Stanmore terminus, with Queensbury the next station towards central London.
