About Bond Street station
The Central London Railway opened Bond Street on 24 September 1900, three months after the line’s first stations, behind a surface building by Harry Bell Measures, the architect of every original CLR station. On the early plans it was to be called Davies Street. In 1920, and again in the early 1930s, a joint scheme with Selfridges was considered that would have put an entrance and ticket office in the store’s basement, but it was never carried out. Charles Holden’s reconstruction, in use from 8 June 1926, swapped the lifts for escalators and added a sub-surface ticket hall and a new façade.
That façade disappeared when the Jubilee line arrived on 1 May 1979; the corner of Oxford Street and Davies Street became the West One arcade. A £300m upgrade, completed in November 2017, raised entrance and exit capacity by 30 per cent, opened a Marylebone Lane entrance and added lifts to make the station step-free. The Elizabeth line station, held back by tunnelling problems, opened on 24 October 2022 with ticket halls at Davies Street and Hanover Square, where the 60 m escalators are the longest on that line. For a week in September 2023 the station briefly carried the name Burberry Street.

Frequently asked questions
Only briefly. During London Fashion Week in September 2023 it was temporarily renamed Burberry Street in a publicity deal for which Burberry paid TfL £200,000, and the name reverted at the end of the week. Long before that, the original railway plans had called the station Davies Street.
The escalators serving the Elizabeth line’s Hanover Square exit are 60 m long, the longest on the Elizabeth line and the second longest on the TfL network, just 1 m shorter than those at Angel on the Northern line.
