About Hounslow East station
Opened on 2 May 1909 under the name Hounslow Town, this station replaced an older terminus of that name which stood at the eastern end of Hounslow High Street, on the site of today’s bus garage. The District Railway had tried running trains into the old terminus and reversing them over a loop back to the main branch; when that proved unsuccessful the direct line from Osterley was reopened, and this new station was built about 300 m west of the loop. A section of embankment that carried the original single track can still be seen just east of the platforms. The station became Hounslow East on 1 December 1925.
Little of the old station survives: Acanthus Lawrence and Wrightson Architects designed replacement buildings, built in two phases. The first, finished in July 2002, dug into the embankment to create a new ticket hall, interchange passageway and stairs; the second, completed early in 2003, added the eastbound platform building with its striking green roof. Lifts were installed to both platforms as part of the works. Staff have also played classical music over the PA as an experiment to discourage anti-social behaviour.

Its buildings were replaced in a two-phase scheme by Acanthus Lawrence and Wrightson Architects.
